Recommended Experience

The Academy's weekly classes include advanced, sometimes rarely taught Chi Kung practices from the Tradition of the Masters.

Therefore, new members should already know the basics of Chi Kung, especially its foundation, Zhan Zhuang, Standing Like a Tree.

You may wish to gain some practical Chi Kung experience before joining the Academy.

This can be accomplished in a number of ways, including self-study of Master Lam's book The Way of Energy, attending the annual Foundation Course taught by Sifu Thomas, or being introduced to Zhan Zhuang as part of another Chi Kung or Tai Chi system.

Holidays

Classes take place as usual on public holidays.

The Academy closes for two weeks at the end of the year and during the summer.

Technical Requirements and Privacy

We're using Zoom Meetings for our online classes. Zoom meetings are private video conferences where all participants can see each other.

Therefore, in order to respect privacy rights, recording of the video conferences in any form (audio, video) is not allowed.

To participate in the course via Zoom, it is recommended to install the Zoom software on a smartphone, tablet, desktop or laptop beforehand. Registration with Zoom is not required.

Access to a reliable internet connection should be available.

After signing-up, you will receive the Zoom dial-in data which you need to participate in the weekly classes.

Language and Start Time

Weekly classes are held in English with translation into German, and begin at 6:30 pm Central European Time (CET) on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Is there a syllabus or agenda for the weekly classes?

Unlike the Academy courses, which have clearly defined topics, the weekly classes follow the flow and inspiration of the teacher and the interests and abilities of the students.

Here are some recent example:

At the end of 2022, we explored the very profound concept of Hun Yuan and its application in Zhan Zhuang.

During the summer of 2022, the Academy training focused on breathing, especially the Chi Kung exercises for regular and reverse breathing, and their relationship with Shi Li, Power Testing.

In early of 2023, a series of classes covered self-healing with advanced Chi Kung practices.

I‘m a complete beginner and want to learn Chi Kung. How do I start?

The best way to begin your Chi Kung journey is to read Master Lam's classic The Way of Energy - Mastering the Chinese Art of Internal Strength with Chi Kung Exercise.

This is the very first book on Chi Kung published in the West, and the definitive book on the art. It is beautifully illustrated and provides excellent and comprehensive instructions for self-study of Chi Kung in the Tradition of the Masters.

A great additional resource for self-study is Master Lam's Stand Still be Fit video series. You can access the videos by clicking the button below.

You may also want to attend the annual Foundation Course taught by Sifu Thomas. The 9 classes of this course will give you a great foundation on which to build your practice.

After completing this course, you'll definitely be ready for advanced training at the Academy.
I've read The Way of Energy, and enjoy the basic exercises. Am I ready for the membership, or should I take the foundation course first?
